American Indians capture Mary Rowlandson

This Day in History:  February 10th, 1675

American Indians capture Mary Rowlandson (abt. 1637 – Jan. 5th, 1711) and her three children during King Philip’s war in Massachusetts and hold them for ransom. Five years later she will write, The Sovereignty and Goodness of God: Being a Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, dated 1682. The first image is in this post is of Mary Rowlandson from A Narrative of the Captivity, Sufferings and Removes of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson that was printed in Boston by Nathaniel Coverly in 1770.  The other image is the title page of her “Captivity Narrative”.
