Robert Aitken’s 1782 Bible

This is a photo of my prototype of Robert Aitken’s 1782 Bible.  You can see that the bottom of this text block is a different color.  That is my complete 1781 Aitken New Testament.  It is finished and already printed on natural white 24 pound laid paper.  The white sheets above that New Testament are the first sheets of our cleaned up pages of the first half of Robert Aitken’s 1782 Old Testament.  We are finished with scanning and cleaning up those Old Testament pages, but still have the other half of his Old Testament page to go.  Jim Darlack and I have scanned Aitken’s entire Bible, but are still cleaning up the last pages of the Old Testament.  We are probably at least a couple of month away from being ready to print the Old Testament that will go with the complete 1781 New Testament that you see at the bottom.  I have printed five 1781 New Testaments.  I hope to be able to make five complete Aitken Bibles this year.  Aitken’s 1782 Bible was the first Bible to be printed in English in American.  It is commonly known as “The Bible of the Revolution”.  Hunter Willis has already made a web page for this Bible.  You can check it out at the link below:
